Welcome to the Civil Service Examination Blog

I am Jed Tedor, a Civil Service Professional Passer and a Registered Electrical Engineer. I took the civil service professional eligibility exam when I was 21 years old, in Cagayan de Oro, Region X on a Sunday morning of July 27, 2008. It was a tiring day overall, I got knocked off in the theatre as I watched The Dark Knight, which was showing at that time. The result was released around October of the same year, I nearly forgot about the exam as I thought I had failed it. It was, after all, very very difficult. About 52,000 took and luckily I am one of the 5, 286 who passed it. It was a very a good feeling to have passed a qualifying exam. To what the exam qualifies for, I didn't know. I took the exam as a practice exam for my upcoming electrical board exam, which I took a year after.

ABOUT THIS BLOG: This Blog post will tackle about the exam process, i'll post my certificate and sample pictures here, I'll post the results and exam schedule. It will talk everything you need to know about passing the civil service examination.. Pls. follow me as I will continue on posting as the days go by. I hope this blog helps those who will take the exams for the first time and help realize the past mistakes for those who have failed it.

    I always eat chocolate even if there's an exam or not. I can't simply resist the urge to munch one during a day! Yes, I am a chocoholic and I admit it. I am so proud of myself for being one. LOL.

    I'd like to share a word Problem I encountered Last April 14, 2013 exam (Professional), the question was in Filipino.But, I can't remember it the way it was stated... :(

    "A group of teachers formed an inverted triangle consisting of 20 lines, such that the first line has 75 teachers and each of the following lines were decreased with 3 teachers. How many teachers were there who participated?"

    choices were....
    1. 900
    2. 950
    3. 1000
    4. 1500
    5. 2000

    I ran out of time so I only estimated the answer (1. 900). But when I got home I found out I was wrong :( the answer wasn't in the choices?????? Why oh why? 930 was the answer tsk tsk.
    But I had passed the exam, though... heheh :)

    While in the GEN INFO. there was a question that goes something like..


    If the regular employees do file their SALN (Statement of Assets and Liabilities and Net Worth), do the casual employees also file theirs too?

    One way to answer that is to list the number of teachers each line, like this:
    75,72,69,66,63,60,57,54,51,48,45,42,39,36,33,30,27,24,21,18,15,12,9,6,3,0

    then you list it again, inverted:
    0,3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24,27,30,33,36,39,42,45,48,51,54,57,60,63,66,69,72,75


    then sum the two list:
    75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75,75
    Which gives you 26 75s or 1950, since you double the list, just divide it by 2 to get the answer, and you are right, the answer is not in the choices, my answer is 975. So I guess I would choose 950 as the answer..

    actually, if we figure it out, it will look like this

    so on, and so forth......
    'til it reach line 20

    at first, I solved it manually
    but later I found out, such sequence can have a formula
    by adding the # of teacher/s in the first & the last line (where in this case we can have 75 & 18, respectively)
    thus,
    75 + 18 = 93
    and multiply the answer to the half of 20(total # of lines)
    93 * 10 = 930
    -----------------------------------------
    Ans= (x+y)(z)

    where
    Ans = answer
    x = # of teachers in the first line
    y = last line
    z = half of total # of the sequence(lines in this case)

    the formula works too with other problems in terms of counting (the sum of) numbers in sequence. :)

    i.e. the total # of handshakes we can get in 10 persons
    manually: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 equals 45 (handshakes)

    Ans = (9 + 1) (4.5)

    Ans = 45 (handshakes)

    do you have the compilation of the answers for all the parts of the reviewer?
    I have downloaded files from your dropbox but i have noticed some answers are different from another file. there are two microsoft word files for the part 1 answer keys and some answers were different. medyo nalilito lang po kasi ako kaya ask ko lang sana kung meron kang compilations ng answers ng part 1~5 na updated baka po kasi different yung answers kasi nahalo yung old files sa updated files.


    I noticed din po kasi sa part III (current events) pdf file 5 items lang yung questions pero sa answer keys mo po 10 items.

    Meron din po sa ratio and proportion, ang na solve kung answer ay wala sa choices. There are two choices in which either answer lacks or exceeds 10 in value.........Like my solved answer is 950 but dalawa choices are 940 and 960. So kailangan lang talaga pumili sa dalawa. Thank God I passed the exam.......

    pano pong quota ? kasi may nababasa ako hinde nila nasagutan ang ilan part tapos pasado, pa explain nman kung pano nila nirarank ang takers para maka pasa kasi ang dating sa akin hinde patas eh pano kung pasado nman score mo eh minalas ka lang at hinde umabot sa quota

    Kung makuha mo yung 80%, I'll tell you na top 1 ka.. Mahirap talaga ang exam, na kung may sure ka na 50% na sagot, malaki ang chance mo na makapasa..

    napakahirap ng exam, so hindi mo talaga makuha yung 80% na pinapangarap ng lahat na abutin. If meron kang 50% sure answers, malaki na ang chance mo masali sa quota.. As I said the 80 Passing rate is not a percentage, it is a way of ranking, I don't know what method they are using or If they are using their own scoring system.

    Hi Sir Jed. Thank you for your blog. It is very helpful to me. I'm preparing for the exam this April. Inaaral ko yung reviewer na pinost mo. Share ko rin itong reviewer na ginagamit ko ngayon. Baka makatulong sa iba. My sister used it when she took the Professional Exam last year and she passed. Kaya ito din ginagamit ko ngayon. Kumpleto siya. May practice tests at may discussion per subjects. Nandun yung mga rules on grammar, different types of analogy, vocabulary words, math formula and computations, saka naka bullet points na yung mga laws. Walang title yung book. Di nabibili sa bookstore. My sister ordered it from this: www.welephantreview.blogspot.com.

    I've been studying everyday for the past month. Kinakabahan pa rin ako. Sana pumasa. Nahihirapan talaga ako sa Math kaya yun ang tinututukan ko. I evaluated myself like you suggested. Laging nahihirapan ako sa Math. Bakit kasi di pwede ang calculator sa exam? Wah!!!

    it happened to me too during the exam, so I erased all my succeeding answers. Just bring a staedtler eraser so you can neatly erase all the wrong marks.

    Yesterday's exam was soooo difficult! SHIFT really happens, but of course im still keeping my fingers crossed.... Kahit na konti lng sa ni review ko ang lumabas im still thankful to GOD kasi mski ppno i was able to finish the exam and make a gut feel sa mga hinulaan kong sagot

    I took the exams yesterday... halos walang fractions and percentage. Wala ding filipino ah 1 lng ata... yearly diff type of exams... kaya wag pakasiguro sa mga reviewer na hawak nyo...     I'm sorry, but you rating is definitely not the highest nationwide. I got 97.3% in the same year (not bragging, just the truth). I don't know if there is a list of highest ratings.

    Hello.. I recently took the exam last May 3, 2015 for the Professional Level.. Unfortunately, hndi po ako nakapasa.. I was wondering kasi sa Math and Logic part nakasagot naman ako at sigurado ako sa mga sagot ko.. sa vocabulary lang tlaga ako medyo nag-alangan kasi hindi yun yung thing ko.. As I read your blog, nagulat ako sa information na may quota pala ang csc.. bakit naman po kaya ganun.. pano po pag nakapasa naman yung score mo pero hndi ka napasali sa 8-12% quota edi wala na.. I am so disappointed by this news..

    Based sa experience ko sa pagkuha ng CSE-PPT Professional Exam eh hindi naman mahirap ang mga tanong, mahina nga ako sa mga vocabulary, grammar usage, pero mataas naman ang kaalaman pagdating sa matematika. Hindi naman mahirap ang CSE. Sabi ko nga sa sarili ko if nagawa kong maipasa ang PUPCET with a rating 0f 92.5%, eh malamang mas maipasa ko yung exam ng CSE-PPT. At yun nga ang nangyari. Isa ako sa mga kumuha ng nasabing examination netong May 3, 2015. And kabilang ako sa listahan ng mga pumasa sa CSE-PPT Professional Level NCR.
