Welcome to the Civil Service Examination Blog

I am Jed Tedor, a Civil Service Professional Passer and a Registered Electrical Engineer. I took the civil service professional eligibility exam when I was 21 years old, in Cagayan de Oro, Region X on a Sunday morning of July 27, 2008. It was a tiring day overall, I got knocked off in the theatre as I watched The Dark Knight, which was showing at that time. The result was released around October of the same year, I nearly forgot about the exam as I thought I had failed it. It was, after all, very very difficult. About 52,000 took and luckily I am one of the 5, 286 who passed it. It was a very a good feeling to have passed a qualifying exam. To what the exam qualifies for, I didn't know. I took the exam as a practice exam for my upcoming electrical board exam, which I took a year after.

ABOUT THIS BLOG: This Blog post will tackle about the exam process, i'll post my certificate and sample pictures here, I'll post the results and exam schedule. It will talk everything you need to know about passing the civil service examination.. Pls. follow me as I will continue on posting as the days go by. I hope this blog helps those who will take the exams for the first time and help realize the past mistakes for those who have failed it.

NO CLOCKS?? Why oh why??

During the exam, cellphones and watches with all your personal belongings will be placed below your chair or in front of the classroom. And CLOCKS will also be removed from the classroom.

So, how will you tell the time and how much time is left before the exam ends? The proctor will only announce the time hourly, and 30, 20, 10 and 5 minutes before the exam ends. You can ask the proctor about the time if it makes you uncomfortable. Don't be afraid to ask. Time is very important in taking the exam.

Why were the clocks removed? The clocks were removed due to past cheating scheme in PRC exams where the exams are mostly 50 items, not applicable in Civil Service though. Using the minute hand of the clock, on last hour, examinees will use sign/body languages to share the answers of the number where the minute hand is on. For example, at 04:01, one examinee would point his right foot forward, meaning the answer is A for item 1, at 04:20, he would put his left foot backward, meaning the answer for item 20 is D. The one copying the answer don't have to ask what number the answer D was, he just have to look at the clock in front of the classroom to tell that the D was for item 20 (04:20).

By the way, all questionnaires will be distributed at the start of the exam, it is up to you where you would like to start. As for me, I started at the beginning but got tired of answering about 100 english/grammar questions and skipped right through the Math part at the middle of the exam. You can do that and return to what you have skipped later.

  1. Yeah, I agree. Why does it have to be removed as well when in fact it is essential for the examinees for them to know how much time there is left. I also encountered the same problem. Since I was not aware of the time, I was just shocked when the proctor said time was up. I was frustrated because it was for my scholarship and I wasn't able to finish answering all the questions. So in the end, I encircle the letters randomly without actually reading the questions. Maybe examiners should know that taking away the clock and watches would not be a help.

  4. Thanks Shaine, you gave me an idea what to post next. You did the right thing to encircle the blanks at the end of the exam. When I took the Electrical Engineering board exam, we were advised to guess an answer if we don't have any idea how to solve the problem. We were advised not leave a number blank. There is 25% chance you would get it right. Examiners should also learn to eliminate possible wrong answers.
